Some 50 elderly people in Malabon City received health services on Tuesday, October 4, as part of the celebration of Filipino Elderly Week.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval honored the activity held at the Barangay Potrero Super Health Center, which was prepared by the city government and barangay medical staff.
“It’s wonderful to see you here. We are grateful for this opportunity to give you a checkup and make sure you are in good health,” Sandoval told the elderly.
“The city government is here to serve you and your family,” she added.
“Everyone is welcome to consult with our doctors, nurses and medical staff, but today is a special day for our grandmas,” Barangay Potrero President Sheryl Nolasco said.
The city government said blood pressure check, electrocardiograph (ECG), blood cholesterol check, X-ray and ultrasound were performed on the recipients. The results were immediately analyzed by doctors to determine the health status and needs of the elderly.
“Maintenance medications for cholesterol, sugar and blood pressure management are provided throughout the city through barangay health centers, so our lolo and lolas (grandfathers and grandmothers ) should regularly visit our city doctors for early treatment,” said Dr. Clarisse Pascual from the city health department.
Seniors also received post-consultation loot bags with medicine supplements, vitamins, alcohol, medical or health brochures, among others.
Philippine Senior Citizens Week is celebrated every first week of October to raise awareness of issues concerning the senior citizen sector, according to officialgazette.gov.ph.
