Chapped Lip

Chapped Lip occurs from dryness in the winter months when cold weather, dry air and wind take their toll, but chapped lips can also occur in the summer when exposed to the sun. Chapped lips are very common and are not a serious problem, but they can be painful and often lead to difficulties eating, talking and drinking. Generally, a good lip balm can help immensely. Chapped lips are caused by the loss of moisture in lip skin. The natural oils in the skin is often lessened by exposure to sun, cold, wind and dry air.

Here are some recommendations for preventing chapped lips:

  • Avoid going out in dry, cold weather without putting on lip balm or lipstick.
  • Try to keep the air in your home humid.
  • Avoid licking your lips, since the saliva will evaporate and leave them dry.
  • Use a sunscreen on your lips when outside in sunny weather.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure to prevent chapped lips.

Chapped Lip known as winter can be idyllic: white snow blankets the ground, children bundle up to play outside and couples cuddle in front of a fireplace. But as the winter winds whip, and the arid heat indoors becomes too much, your lips can peel and crack. The most plentiful ingredient in the Pure Lip ointments is a zinc powder, and it's a lot like snow: white, rubs in clear, soft & fluffy, lighter than almost anything, reflects sun, natural, no preservatives, good for you, loved by all ages, stays on the "lip", cheaper than lift tickets, don't eat if yellow Chapped, peeling lips are a cold-weather woe. UAB oral pathologist Brad Rodu, D.D.S., cautions that sometimes lip balms can make the condition worse, resulting in an uncommon but difficult-to-treat condition called cheilitis.

Cause of Chapped Lip

Some common causes of Chapped Lip:

  • Dry weather
  • Overexposure to the sun
  • Lip biting and sucking
  • Rriboflavin (vitamin B-2) deficiencies
  • And ill-fitting dentures.

Treatment of Chapped Lip

Some common treatment of Chapped Lip :

  • Apply lip balm or petroleum jelly. You can also try coating your lips with skin moisturizer, vitamin E oil or aloe vera gel. These greasy products help keep your lips properly moisturized.
  • Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
  • Keep in mind that cracks at the corners of your mouth can indicate riboflavin deficiencies; you can treat this with vitamin B-2 supplements.
  • Most importantly, pretend that nothing ever happened as soon as the chapstick is out of sight.
  • Another alternative (lip balm free) method: Drink plenty of water at the first sign of chapped lips. Your lips will moisten naturally.

Symptoms of  Dry and Chronic Chapped Lip

Chapped lips often look dry, red and feel painful. Lips can also crack, split and bleed. The pain is often continuous, but it can intensify when lips come in contact with moisture or some foods.

Natural Home remedies for Chapped Lips

1. Treat chapped lips with beeswax and phenol (such as Carmex).

2. Apply lip balm or petroleum jelly. You can also try coating your lips with skin moisturizer, vitamin E oil or aloe vera gel. These greasy products help keep your lips properly moisturized.

3. For Severely Chapped Lips: Severely cracked lips can become infected. Use over-the-counter antibiotic ointments to guard against this.

4. Try using a lip balm without petroleum products in them. These products are not moisturizing, but rather suffocating to the skin. A product with natural ingredients such as shae butter is best.

5. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

6. Cover your face in the winter, especially on windy days, make sure your child has a scarf or hat with a mask.

7. Use one teaspoon salt to one pint water. Soak a washcloth in the solution and lay it over your lips. Keep it cool and moist for a while, then pat dry," she says. You might try doing this just before going to bed. Do it daily for one week.

8. If you suspect that an allergy to an ingredient in your lipstick is causing your lips to chap, Dr. Koblenzer offers this easy home allergy test: "Put a little dab under an adhesive dressing on your inner arm and leave it there for 48 hours," she says. "If you're truly allergic to something in the lipstick, you'll have an itchy reaction."
