Anorexia Home Remedies - Get Rid of Anorexia

Anorexia or loss of appetite is not a disease in itself but a manifestation of other diseases. It is chiefly a symptom of disturbed digestion and leads to generalised weakness. Ironically, as concerns grow over the rise in obesity, some people are intent on becoming too thin, sometimes to the point of self-starvation. Individuals suffering from anorexia have extreme weight loss. Weight loss is usually 15% below the person's normal body weight. Anorexia is a life threatening condition that can put a serious strain on many of the body's organs and physiological resources. A recent review of the scientific literature outlined a number of reliable findings in this area. The syndrome is more common in women than in men, and most often begins between the ages of 13-30 years. The medical complications brought about by this psychiatric disorder can be severe. Anorexia can become a lifelong illness, although it is possible to fully recover with proper treatment. In fact, people with anorexia nervosa ignore hunger and thus control their desire to eat. This desire is frequently sublimated through cooking for others or hiding food that they will not eat in their personal space. People with anorexia typically have a disturbed electrolyte imbalance, particularly low levels of phosphate which has been linked to heart failure, muscle weakness, immune dysfunction, and ultimately, death. Anorexia, technically called anorexia nervosa, can be chronic and difficult to overcome. But with treatment, people with anorexia can gain a healthier sense of their self, return to healthier eating habits and reverse some of the disease's serious complications.

People suffering from anorexia are very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight. Weight loss is obtained by many ways. Some of the common techniques used are excessive exercise, intake of laxatives and not eating. It is difficult to estimate how common it is but surveys suggest that up to 1 per cent of schoolgirls and female university students have anorexia nervosa. Some estimates say only about 1 percent of American girls and women have anorexia. Individuals with anorexia often control body weight by voluntary starvation , purging, vomiting , excessive exercise , or other weight control measures, such as diet pills or diuretic drugs. Others suggest that up to 10 percent of adolescent girls have anorexia. It may seem particularly common among teens because that's often when anorexia begins, and many teens do experiment with diets. Boys and men also can develop anorexia, but they do so far less often than women. The term anorexia literally means loss of appetite, but this is a misnomer. This cycle becomes an obsession, and is similar to any type of drug or substance addiction.
