The most important remedy for backache is the use of garlic. The use of garlic oil prepared by frying ten cloves of garlic in 60 ml of oil in a frying pan will provide great relief if rubbed on the back.

Lemon is another useful remedy for backache. The juice of one lemon should be mixed with common salt and taken by the patient twice daily.

Vitamin C has proved advantageous in cases of severe backaches. About 2,000 mg of this vitamin should be taken daily for treating this condition. It will bring improvement within two days.

Chebulic Myroblan is beneficial in the treatment of backache. A small piece of this fruit should be eaten after meals. This will bring quick relief.

Application of raw potato in the form of a poultice has been found effective in backache.

The patient should avoid fatty, spicy and fried foods, curds, sweetmeats and sugar, tea and coffee. The patient should take plenty of fruits except bananas and raw vegetables.

Smoking or taking tobacco in any form should be given up. Hot fomentation, alternate sponging, or application of heat to the back will also give immediate relief. Yogic asanas which are helpful are bhujangasana, shalabhasana, halasana and shavasana.
