Gout Home Remedies - Get Rid of Gout

The term 'gout' is used to describe a number of disorders in which crystals of monosodium urate monohydrate derived from hyperuricaemic body fluids give rise to inflammatory arthritis, tenosynovitis, bursitis, tophi, urolithiasis and even renal disease. Gout is predominantly seen in post pubertal males and is rarely seen in women before the menopause. However, if the blood has an elevated concentration of uric acid, uric acid crystals are deposited in the cartilage and tissue surrounding joints. Elevated blood levels of uric acid can also result in uric kidney stones. With gout the body either makes too much uric acid or does not excrete enough. The uric acid forms into crystals that, because these have nowhere else to go, deposit in different parts of the body. Gouty arthritis should be considered in people who have a sudden onset of a hot, red, swollen joint. It is diagnosed by finding uric acid (monosodium urate) crystals in the joint fluid. Gout usually starts as an acute attack that often comes on overnight. Within 12-24 hours there is usually severe pain and swelling in the joint. Fortunately, gout is treatable, and there are ways to keep gout from recurring.

Gout is condition that results from crystals of uric acid depositing in tissues of the body. Gout accounts for approximately 5 percent of all cases of arthritis. The large toe is most often affected, but gout also can affect other joints in the leg (knee, ankle, and foot) and, less often, joints in the arm (hand, wrist, and elbow)The term arthritis refers to more than 100 different rheumatic diseases that affect the joints, muscles, and bones, as well as other tissues and structures. Deposits of uric acid, called tophi (singular: tophus), can appear as lumps under the skin around the joints and at the rim of the ear. In addition, uric acid crystals can collect in the kidneys and cause kidney stones. The joint inflammation is precipitated by deposits of uric acid crystals in the joint fluid (synovial fluid) and joint lining (synovial lining) Gout most often affects the big toe but can also affect the ankle, knee, foot, hand, wrist and elbow. Intense joint inflammation occurs as white blood cells engulf the uric acid crystals and release chemicals of inflammation, causing pain, heat, and redness of the joint tissues. If left untreated, the accumulated crystals can damage the joint and lead to chronic arthritis. Fortunately, there are effective medications to treat gout.
