Psoriasis Home Remedies - Get Rid of Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic, relapsing and remitting, papulosquamous disease which may affect equally may appear at any age and involves any part of the skin. Between 10% and 30% of people who develop psoriasis get a related form of arthritis called "psoriatic arthritis," which causes inflammation of the joints. Psoriasis develops when the ordinary life cycle of skin cells accelerates. Skin cells regularly die and flake off in scales but in people with psoriasis this process happens within days rather than weeks. Fingernails and toenails are frequently affected (psoriatic nail dystrophy). Psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints. Psoriasis is often so mild it is barely noticed by the affected person, but it can occasionally so severe the patient must be admitted to hospital for treatment. It may or may not be itchy. The exact cause of psoriasis is unknown, but hereditary and genetic factors are important. Psoriasis runs in families. This does not mean, however, that every child of a parent with psoriasis will develop psoriasis, but it is common that somewhere down the line psoriasis will appear in families. Psoriasis is not caused by allergies, infections, dietary deficiencies or excesses, or nervous tension. Psoriasis can affect all races. Studies have shown that more people in western European and Scandinavian populations have psoriasis than those in other population groups.

Psoriasis is a persistent skin disorder in which there are red, thickened areas with silvery scales, most often on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. There is a genetic predisposition to psoriasis i.e. it tends to run in families. Psoriasis is also influenced by many environmental factors. It is not contagious and is not due to an allergy. There is no blood test for psoriasis. The diagnosis is made by observation and examination of the skin. Sometimes plaque psoriasis can evolve into more severe disease, such as pustular psoriasis  or erythrodermic psoriasis.  In pustular psoriasis, the red areas on the skin contain blisters with pus. Sometimes microscopic examination of the skin (biopsy) is helpful where the changes are not typical or characteristic. Localized pustular psoriasis usually only appears on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hand; and instead of red, scaly patches there's usually a mass of tiny yellow blisters. The disease is chronic, but you may have periods when psoriasis becomes worse alternating with times when it improves or goes into remission. And although no cure exists, psoriasis treatments may offer significant relief.
