Accuzyme

General Information

Accuzyme is indicated for debridement of necrotic tissue and liquefication of slough in acute and chronic lesions such as pressure ulcers, varicose and diabetic ulcers, burns, postoperative wounds, pilonidal cyst wounds, carbuncles and miscellaneous traumatic or infected wounds. This medication is used to treat skin wounds. It works by helping the breakdown of dead skin and pus, which helps improve the recovery time of open wounds. Apply directly to wound after dressing changes, as directed. This product is for skin use only.

Accuzyme Dosage

  • Apply accuzyme directly to the wound, cover with appropriate dressing, secure into place. Daily or twice daily applications are preferred.

Side Effects of Accuzyme

The following side effects of Accuzyme may includes:

  • A burning sensation or irritation of the skin may occur.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Swelling of the lips, face, or tongue.

Warnings and precautions before taking Accuzyme

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement.
  • Do not use other topical preparations on the affected area unless directed to do so by your doctor.
  • Keep Accuzyme Ointment out of the reach of children and away from pets.
  • Accuzyme Ointment is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with other people.

Overdosage

  • Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose of papain-urea is suspected or if the medication has been ingested.
  • US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
  • Symptoms of an overdose of papain-urea topical are not known.
  • Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly.
