General InformationGanirelix Acetate (Antagon) is a man-made protein that inhibits the actions of the naturally-occurring hormone gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Ganirelix is used along with other medications to regulate hormone response in the treatment of infertility in women. Ganirelix is used as a fertility medicine to prevent premature luteinizing hormone surges in women undergoing the fertility procedure of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Luteinizing hormone is involved in ovulation, which is the development of eggs in the ovaries. Ganirelix may help reduce the need for follicle-stimulating hormone, which is also involved in ovulation. Ganirelix acetate works immediately by suppressing luteinizing hormone and FSH secretion. This allows for eggs to reach the level of development needed for fertilization. Ganirelix should be prescribed by a doctor experienced in infertility treatment. Before starting treatment with ganirelix, it should be determined that you are not already pregnant. Ganirelix may be harmful to an unborn baby. Ganirelix Acetate Dosage
