General Information

Bacidis in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are amongst the most addictive medications that affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety. Acidophilus is available in pill, granule, and powder formulations. Some dairy products also contain acidophilus. Other formulations may also be available. Lactobacillus, the active ingredient in Bacid, is one of the saprophytic (normal) microorganisms living in the human digestive tract. The use of acidophilus in cultural and traditional settings may differ from concepts accepted by current Western medicine. When considering the use of herbal supplements, consultation with a primary health care professional is advisable. Acidophilus is also called Lactobacillus acidophilus. Acidophilus has been used to re-establish the normal consistency of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestines). The use of acidophilus in cultural and traditional settings may differ from concepts accepted by current Western medicine. When considering the use of herbal supplements, consultation with a primary health care professional is advisable.

Bacid Dosage

  • 2 capsules 2 to 4 times daily, taken preferably with milk or lactose.
  • For infants or others unable to take capsules, the contents of the capsules may be added to semi-solid food.

Side Effects of Bacid

The following side effects of Accolate may includes:

  • Trouble breathing.
  • Sore throt.
  • Severe itching.
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness.
  • Swelling of your lips.
  • Dizziness.

Warnings and precautions before taking Bacid

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Bacid. Alcohol may increase drowsiness caused by Bacid. It may also increase the risk of seizures.
  • The safety and efficay of this medicine have not been studied in children and adolescents, hence it is not recommended for use in these age groups.
  • Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking acidophilus if you have any other medical conditions, allergies, or if you take other medicines or herbal/ health supplements.
  • Breast Feeding - Mothers who are taking Bacid and who wish to breast-feed should discuss this with their doctor.

Overdosage

  • After taking Bacid, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately.
  • Symptoms of a acidophilus overdose are not known.
  • US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
  • Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly.
