General InformationFenofibrate is a drug of the fibrate class. The medicine is used for reducing triglycerides and cholesterol. Fenofibrate comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day with a meal. Fenofibrate is available in capsule form. Fenofibrate is also available as a modified release preparation, which means fenofibrate is released slowly over the day to give a more even effect. Fenofibrate helps in reducing the low density lipoprotein cholesterol and thus raises the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol in blood. Fenofibrate is recommended only when the other option of reducing lipids or cholesterol fails. However, any other instruction given by your doctor such as diet or exercise should be continued for obtaining better results. It is not known whether fenofibrate passes into breast milk. Studies in animals have shown that high doses of fenofibrate may increase the risk of some kinds of tumors. Therefore, this medicine is not recommended for use during breast-feeding. Avoid alcohol or use it only in moderation while taking fenofibrate. Alcohol can raise triglyceride levels, and it can be damaging to the liver while you are taking fenofibrate. Fenofibrate Dosage
