General Information

Dexasone relieves inflammation in various parts of the body. It is used specifically to decrease swelling, associated with tumors of the spine and brain, and to treat eye inflammation. Dexasone eye drops are given to treat or prevent many eye conditions. The eye drops are most commonly given to patients with leukemia or lymphoma, to prevent inflammation of the eyes, if you are receiving high dose chemotherapy. The amount of dexamethasone you will receive depends on many factors, including your general health or other health problems, and the reason you are receiving this drug. Side effects are almost always reversible and will go away after treatment is complete.

Dexasone Dosage

  • The dose of these medicines will be different for different patients.
  • Adults and teenagers: 25 to 300 milligrams a day, as a single dose or divided into several doses.
  • Children: Dose is based on body weight or size and must be determined by your doctor.

  • Muscle cramps.
  • Headache.
  • Increased risk of fungal infection. 
  • Increased appetite.
  • Mood changes.
  • Increased blood pressure.
  • Restlessness.

Warning and precautions before taking Dexasone

  • Do not receive any kind of immunization or vaccination without your doctor's approval while taking dexamethasone.
  • Do not breast feed while taking this medication.
  • If you have diabetes, this medication may increase your blood sugar levels. You may need more frequent monitoring.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has chickenpox or measles. This is especially important for children.
  • Do not use more or less of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.

Overdosage

  • An overdose of dexasone can be fatal.
  • If you by chance take more than the recommended amount of this drug and overdose, contact poison control center immediately; along with your doctor.
  • Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly.
