Amlodipine Benazepril

General Information

Amlodipine Benazepril is a combination of two drugs used to lower blood pressure. Amlodipine and benazepril lower, but do not cure high blood pressure (hypertension). Amlodipine is in a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard. Benazepril is in a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly. The combination of amlodipine and benazepril comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day. Amlodipine and benazepril controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Continue to take amlodipine and benazepril even if you feel well. Do not stop taking amlodipine and benazepril without talking to your doctor. This medicine is not usually given to pregnant women because it can harm the baby. If you are pregnant, tell your health care provider. Do not become pregnant during treatment with this medicine. If you become pregnant, contact your health care provider right away. Do not breast-feed while you are receiving this medicine. Amlodipine and benazepril may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Amlodipine Benazepril Dosage

  • The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients.
  • The combination of amlodipine and benazepril comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day.
  • Adults - 1 capsule a day. Your doctor may increase your dose if needed.
  • Children - Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Side Effects of Amlodipine Benazepril

The following side effects of Amlodipine Benazepril may includes:

  • Cough and dizziness.
  • Severe skin rash.
  • Swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs.
  • Hoarseness.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes.
  • Light-headedness.
  • Fatigue.

Warnings and precautions before taking Amlodipine Benazepril

  • This drug can cause serious harm to an unborn baby (possibly death) if used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking amlodipine and benazepril.
  • This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: history of an allergic reaction which included swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat (angioedema).
  • Do not take your medicine more often then directed.
  • Drink adequate fluids to prevent from becoming dehydrated. If you are on restricted fluid intake, consult your doctor for further instructions. Be careful not to become too overheated during exercise which can lead to excessive sweating.

Overdosage

  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Symptoms of an amlodipine and benazepril overdose are not known but might include dizziness, weakness, chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, coma, slurred speech, and confusion.
  • If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
